BONE SCINTIGRAPHY

Scintigraphy is a diagnosis method based on injecting a weakly radioactive substance, whose emissions will be captured, read and turned into images by a specific device. In oncology, scintigraphy is often used to check for bone alterations. It should be noted that it’s a very sensitive exam, which means any kind of bone alteration, present or past, can be detected. However, the test isn’t highly specific, which means it can’t always pinpoint the origin of the aforementioned alterations. Therefore, in some cases, findings through scintigraphy may need complementary evaluation from other image tests.
