PLATELETS

Cells produced in the bone marrow, present in the bloodstream and which act in blood clotting. Its action can prevent bleeding or reduce its duration and intensity.

In some clinical situations, there may be an increase in the number of platelets, called plateletosis. Thrombosis can predispose to the occurrence of thrombosis, which is the formation of clots inside the blood vessels, causing them to be occluded.

In other clinical situations, a decrease in the number of platelets, called thrombocytopenia, may occur.
