NEO-ADJUVANT

Situation in which a treatment, usually chemotherapy or radiation, is used before surgery to reduce the size of the tumor. Thus, the removal of the lesion can be facilitated, increasing the chance of success of the procedure. Currently, neoadjuvant chemotherapy is most often used for certain types of breast, colon, and rectal cancers.
